Careers

Our first-rate careers education helps pupils identify how their strengths, weaknesses and interests relate to the world of work. We want every pupil to know that they own their career aspirations, plans and decisions from the outset. Pupils are supported so that they have the knowledge and confidence to go out and achieve their aspirations after school.

Through a programme of activities both within and alongside the curriculum we aim to prepare our pupils for their future lives in education and work.聽 We develop career planning together with all the employability and management skills needed to make successful transitions. We believe that effective careers education and guidance not only contributes to the well-being of individuals but raises their aspirations.

Throughout their time at Bancroft鈥檚, pupils are offered a range of experiences, which enable them to acquire the skills necessary to be successful in the world of work. Pupils are encouraged to take an active role in their own career development, so the careers programme emphasises pupil participation with a focus on self-development, and developing career management and employability skills. They also get the chance to learn about different careers and opportunities. Each pupil is provided with individual guidance about education and training beyond school to help them make the most of their abilities and skills. This impartial advice and guidance, is available across all year groups.

To make good career decisions pupils need to identify how their strengths, weaknesses and interests relate to the聽current and future聽world of work.

Pupils are encouraged to take an active role in their own career development, so the careers programme emphasises pupil participation with a focus on self-development, learning about careers and the world of work, and developing career management and employability skills.

Impartial; careers guidance is not only a set of interventions, is also a process where the Head of Careers, tutors, all teaching staff and Senior House Staff monitor each pupil鈥檚 development, helping them to 鈥渒now themselves鈥 and gain a personal understanding of the career options that would support them to succeed in their adult life. This process also assists in preventing social stereotyping,

We are fortunate to have both an involved parent body and a strong Old Bancroftian community which are always happy to provide support for our career initiatives, for example by supporting the Sixth Form Careers Interview Day.
