Co-Curriculum

Bancroft's offers an extremely wide range of co-curricular activities and all pupils are encouraged to participate in the co-curricular life of the school.聽 We offer over a hundred different clubs and societies, so that there is something for everyone! Such activities promote self-reliance and self-confidence.

They also give Bancroftians a chance to develop abilities and strengths which may not always emerge in the academic side of school life. Not only do pupils derive many benefits from involvement in these activities, but also employers and universities set great store by the qualities which are developed and the qualifications gained.

Lower Sixth (year 12) pupils are encouraged to follow their own interests to set up and lead societies. Such societies vary from year to year depending on the interests of pupils. Recent student led societies have included: Ethical Eating; Fantasy Football League; Law Society; Philosophy Society and Japanese Cultural Appreciation Society. Many societies produce their own termly publications which are edited by pupils and contain articles by pupils which allows them to investigate their own interests. Such publications include :The Quark (Physics Soc); The Past Paper (History Society); The Teacup (Creative Writing); GeoJournal (Geography Society) and a Modern Foreign Languages magazine.

One of our most popular co-curricular activities is Combined Cadet Force (CCF) which has both Army and Royal Air Force sections. Training is varied and includes flying, gliding and orienteering. Three camps are arranged each year, including a week of outdoor activities in the Lake District,.The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme (DofE) is consistently popular for the opportunities which it provides for getting active, volunteering, learning and developing new skills and challenging expeditions. Each year around 200 pupils are involved in the DofE at Bancroft’s. We saw an enviable 78% pass rate in 2019/20, which included a significant number of DofE Gold Awards. Bancroft鈥檚 has a flourishing Scout Group with two age bands: Cubs (Prep School to age 11) and Sea Scouts. Ours was one of the first scout groups to welcome both girls and boys to equal membership.

In addition to timetabled sports and games, pupils have the opportunity to participate in a variety of co-curricular sporting activities, including table tennis, badminton, fencing, dance and yoga.

鈥淭here is such a range of activities and opportunities available, that everyone can excel in their own way, and bring something different and new to our world.鈥
